Cyber safety skills are so important for children in our modern, technology-driven world. When you hand your child a smartphone, you’re opening them up to a world of possibilities. But smartphones aren’t toys, and like any piece of technology, it’s important that your child understands how to navigate the different apps in a safe way. In addition, your child should learn to find a balance between technology use and real-life experiences.
When children can learn about cyber safety in an interesting, engaging way, they’re more likely to make smart choices both online and off. That’s what Appi Alex, resident of Cyber City, is here to teach.
Teach Your Child about Cyber Safety at Cyber City
Cyber City is a fun, fictional high-tech town featured in our upcoming children’s book about cyber safety. The engaging characters teach kids all about how to stay safe, learn, and have fun online!
So far, we’ve introduced a few of the city’s most well-known residents, including Digital Dan, Padlock Picasso, and Savannah Smartphone. Today, we want to introduce you to one more member of the team — Appi Alex.
Meet Appi Alex: App Expert
The fourth and final character introduced in the Cyber City books is Appi Alex, who takes the form of a smartphone app. He is friends with Savannah Smartphone, who we met in our last article. His job is to teach kids how to choose the best apps to download. He also shows them how to use apps safely, so they can have fun while they learn (and their parents don’t have to worry).
Appi Alex’s first order of business is to teach kids that smartphones aren’t just for mindless games. There are a ton of learning apps out there that can help your child develop strong critical thinking skills and be a ton of fun to play!
He suggests that kids find apps in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) fields, so they can be successful in school and beyond. STEAM fields can help kids achieve their dream jobs of becoming doctors, engineers, architects, and astronauts!
Appi Alex also reminds kids to think before downloading apps, avoid downloading anything inappropriate, and try finding one or two reading apps. He makes sure kids know that apps take up storage space on their devices, so they should delete the ones they’re no longer using.
Finally, Appi Alex makes sure kids know to always ask their parents for permission first! Whether they’re downloading an app for the first time or making an in-app purchase, their parent or guardian has the final say. And they should always listen if their parents say an app is inappropriate.
Appi Alex knows that if kids listen to his rules, they’ll be well-prepared for life in Cyber City and happy with the choices they make online!
